The Birth of “Black Little Peter”

It began as a question: How do we give a visual voice to the music that has shaped us? Under the umbrella of our musical project Melanchollica, we set out to translate sound into something tangible, something you could hold in your hands. The answer came in a form we never quite expected—„Black Little Peter“, a limited-edition card game.

Drawing on the inspirations of Metallica’s world—where raw emotion meets intricate storytelling—we collaborated with a skilled trumpeter, Martin Petřík, and harnessed the power of AI to generate new artistic possibilities. Over the course of six months, we blended these AI-driven experiments with human craftsmanship. Prompts turned into sketches; sketches evolved into fully-realized artworks. The result? 32 unique visual interpretations that bridge the gap between music and imagery, each card reflecting a universe of fantasy creatures, layered symbolism, and deeply resonant themes.

Yet, this was never meant to be a purely digital endeavor. We brought on Kristina, whose keen eye for design ensured that these AI-generated visions would feel cohesive, authentic, and ready for the real world. The final product is more than a set of cards—it’s a tactile narrative that translates musical energy into visual form, offering an entirely new way to experience the spirit of Melanchollica.

This is Limited Edition 2024, and the rules come in multiple languages—Czech, English, Finnish, Swedish, German, Spanish, and Japanese—so that the resonance of our work can cross borders and cultures. Each deck is both a collector’s item and an invitation to explore the interplay between sound and sight, technology and tradition.
